God’s Word Is A Light Unto Your Path

Picture this. You are driving down a back road in the dead of night. On this road there are absolutely no street lights. Even with your headlights on, it’s hard to see anything. For you to see the road ahead of you, you probably have to do what?

You guessed it. You have to put your high beams on.

Now I live in the wonderful state of Alabama where we know about this all too well. When I have to drive down a pitch black road, I often think, “Lord, I would never want to walk down this road at night. I would not be able to see a thing!”

The bible tells us the world we live in is dark. You can look around at our present times and see that it is indeed dark, and getting darker by the day. Although this is true, we are not without hope. The Lord gives us a promise in Psalm 119 on how we can navigate through this dark world.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Psalm 119:105

As daughters of the King, we have the words of our Lord guiding us. His written and spoken word will light up what path we should take. This should be an encouragement to you sis! You and I do not have to stumble our way through the dark times of our journey. Our Father has given us His word to direct our next moves. If an obstacle is in your way, His word will show you how to maneuver around it. We use His holy scriptures to guide us safely along our journey.

It is our job as followers of Jesus to trust His leading. When you do not trust the leading of the Holy Spirit, you will create another path for yourself out of artificial light. Avoid doing this at all cost. It will only do more damage than good.

Allow the word of the Lord to light your path. Make every effort to follow the path that HE has marked out for you. His job is to light. Our job as children is to follow.

If you want to start participating in your part, I have one action step for you.

Get acquainted with the word of God.

His word can not guide you if you do not engage with it.

As believers, we owe it to ourselves to dig into God’s word and allow it to be a guiding light for us. We do not have to be afraid of this world getting darker. We can allow the wonderful words of our loving Father to light our path in the midst of darkness.

Challenge Questions

  1. Has there been a time in your life when you created artificial light to light your path? Did you take that path because it seemed the best for you? By doing this, how did it turn out for you?
  2. God’s word was meant to be a light source for you along your journey. How can you practically allow God’s word to do what it was meant to do?
